Historic Independence Hall in Philadelphia

Located in Independence National Historical Park, Independence Hall is one of the most important historic sites in the United States. This is where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were discussed, written, and signed by the Founding Fathers. Guided tours led by knowledgeable docents are free and available on a first come, first serve basis. Stretching over 20 city blocks, the park includes Independence Hall, the Independence Visitors Center, the Liberty Bell Center, and much more.

There are over 30 sites to visit on the 55-acre Independence National Historical Park. These include Benjamin Franklin National Memorial, City Tavern, Virtual Portrait Exhibit, New Hall Military Museum, and Washington Square.

Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution

The United States of America became a new nation in Independence Hall. Here is where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were signed by the Founding Fathers. On the free tour of this historic site, visitors will see artifacts from these historic days, including the chair in which George Washington sat.

Tours of Independence Hall

This historic tour is about 30 minutes long and is led by volunteer rangers, who are well informed and passionate about U.S. history. Visitors will get to see the Assembly Room where the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were signed. The first floor of Independence Hall is ADA accessible.

  • How do I get tickets, and how much are they?


    Admission is free but tickets are required for same-day, timed entry. Arrive as early as possible as tickets go fast. The best time to get tickets is between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. You may obtain up to 10 tickets for your group and they need not be with when you get them. Tickets can also be reserved in advance online, but there is a $1.50 per ticket reservation fee. Pick up at Will Call is available, which is at the Independence Visitors Center across from the Liberty Bell.
  • What is a visit like for kids?


    This is a great tour for school-age children, especially those learning about United States history. Tour guides are able to speak to kids on their level and point out fun facts and suggestions for activities, like sending a letter from the first U.S. post office, located across the street from Independence Hall.
